Doctors and experts in the Gaza Strip drew attention to women's right to healthcare and the necessity of increasing early diagnosis and treatment opportunities for breast cancer, amidst severe health and humanitarian conditions. The statements came as the Ministry of Health announced the launch of Pink October campaign activities at the Al-Shifa Medical Center.

Pink October Campaign and Its Purpose

The Ministry of Health announced the launch of Pink October campaign activities at the Al-Shifa Medical Center in the west of Gaza City. The ministry is carrying out this campaign to raise awareness about the importance of women's health, encourage women to undergo medical screenings, and avoid postponing examinations.

Right to Access Healthcare Services

Senabil Abu Tuweila, Director of the Training and Health Development Department affiliated with the Ministry of Health, stated that the campaign carries awareness and advocacy messages. Abu Tuweila expressed that Pink October is not just about a disease, but about a human being who has the right to obtain information, undergo examinations, and access treatment.

Black October Proposal and System Inadequacy

Mohammed Abu Meda, Oncology Advisor to the Ministry of Health, suggested renaming Pink October to Black October in Gaza, given the lack of medicine and treatment as well as the prevention of female cancer patients from traveling. Attention was drawn to the fact that the diagnosis and follow-up system has been out of service by approximately 80 percent throughout the war.

Call for Resources from Al-Shifa Hospital

Mohammed Abu Salmiya, Director of Al-Shifa Hospital, stated that this year's campaign is taking place under severe conditions such as the destruction of hospitals, medicine shortages, and the closure of border crossings. Abu Salmiya made an urgent call for the provision of necessary medical facilities.
