Prime Minister Üstel's Statement on Health Operations Regarding Boat Accident off Kyrenia

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel made a comprehensive statement regarding the healthcare efforts carried out following the boat accident that occurred off the coast of Kyrenia seven days ago. He stated that all 239 survivors of the accident were transferred to hospitals.

Rapid Response of Healthcare Teams

Under the coordination of the Ministry of Health, 21 ambulances and 63 personnel were dispatched to the port in a short time. At the scene, 25 doctors and 30 nurses performed the initial interventions.

State of Alert at Hospitals

State, university, military, and private hospitals were simultaneously put on high alert. All 239 survivors out of the 267 people on board were transferred to hospitals, where they underwent examinations and health checks.

Treatment and Intensive Care Processes

Out of the accident victims, 132 people were hospitalized for further examination and treatment, and 4 of them were taken to intensive care. A total of 139 physicians and approximately 200 nurses and healthcare workers served throughout the process.

Status of Discharged Patients

Out of the 132 accident victims hospitalized in public and university hospitals, 131 were discharged as of September 5. It was reported that only one victim's inpatient treatment continues and there are no patients left receiving treatment in intensive care.

Psychological Support Efforts

In addition to physical health services, psychological support efforts were also carried out. Teams consisting of 19 psychiatry specialists and 17 clinical psychologists provided support to the accident victims as well as the relatives of those who lost their lives and those who are missing.

Search and Rescue Activities

It was recalled that 13 people lost their lives in the accident and 15 people are still missing. It was stated that search efforts to reach the missing persons continue on a 24/7 basis.
