Seafarers' Health Examinations and Directive Rules Reorganized
With the update made to seafarers' health examination principles, the 3-month time restriction was removed and a new 10-year periodic period rule was introduced.
Along with important changes made to the rules regarding seafarers' health examinations, periodic examination periods, validity periods of health documents, vision-hearing criteria, and examination lists were reorganized.
Periodic Examination and Time Rules
The 3-month time restriction applied in periodic health examinations was completely removed. It has become mandatory for seafarers who have passed 10 years since their last general examination date to apply for a general examination again.
Validity Period of Health Documents
The validity period of the Seafarer's Health Inspection Certificate was determined to be a maximum of 2 years. For employees under 18 or over 65 years of age, this period was applied as a maximum of 1 year.
Vision and Color Criteria Updated
Visual system examination standards were detailed, and lookout duty conditions were regulated. The use of corrective or colored contact lenses and glasses in color vision tests was strictly prohibited.
Hearing Criteria and New Measures
A requirement was introduced for seafarers using hearing aid devices to carry a spare device and batteries. Vibrating and flashing warning systems were defined for emergency situations.
Obesity and Examination List Changes
A 7-stage obesity decision tree was created to be used in health evaluations. The Anti-HBs test was added to the general and periodic examination test lists.
