TRNC Prime Minister Üstel Makes Statement on Ship Accident Off Kyrenia
Following the ship accident off Kyrenia, a statement was made regarding the efforts carried out by healthcare teams and the treatment processes of the accident victims.
Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Ünal Üstel stated that healthcare workers acted with a great sense of mobilization following the ship accident that occurred off the coast of Kyrenia on August 30, and shared detailed information about the ongoing efforts.
Rapid Intervention by Healthcare Teams
From the very first minutes of the marine accident, 21 ambulances and 63 personnel were rapidly dispatched to the port under the coordination of the Ministry of Health.
While initial interventions were performed by 25 doctors and 30 nurses at the scene, state, university, military, and private hospitals were simultaneously put on high alert.
Transfer of the Injured and Hospital Processes
All 239 survivors out of the 267 passengers involved in the accident were transferred to hospitals and underwent necessary health checks.
Out of the 132 accident victims who were hospitalized for further examination and treatment, 131 have been discharged, and no one remains in intensive care.
Psychological Support and Search Operations
Throughout the process, teams consisting of 19 psychiatry specialists and 17 clinical psychologists provided support to the accident victims and the relatives of the missing.
While the death toll from the accident was announced as 13, it was reported that search operations to reach the 15 missing persons are continuing uninterrupted.
