Vietnam Launches Population Policy to Combat Low Birth Rates
The Ministry of Health of Vietnam has implemented a new program aiming to encourage young people to marry and have children at an early age in order to balance low birth rates.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Health has launched a new national population and development program for the 2026-2035 period to combat low birth rates. Within the framework of this newly enacted program, young people are encouraged to marry before the age of 30 and have two children.
Details of the New Population Program
The national health and population program covering the 2026-2035 period, prepared by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health, has entered into force. This new regulation aims to bring low birth rates under control.
Targeted Regions and Age Limit
Under the implementation, men and women are encouraged to marry before the age of 30. Couples are supported to have two children, especially in 10 provinces and cities, including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, where birth rates are low.
Health and Counseling Services
Within the scope of the program, pre-marital counseling services as well as pregnancy and childcare training will be provided. In addition, reproductive health seminars will be organized to raise awareness among citizens on these issues.
Industrial Zones and Research
Priority is given to infertility screening and counseling services for couples working in industrial zones. Between 2027 and 2030, comprehensive demographic research will be conducted to analyze the factors affecting fertility rates.
