Search operations continue for the 14 missing people from the passenger ship that sank off the coast of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, while a new search and rescue ship sent from Turkey is planned to enter the wreckage.
While search and rescue operations for the 14 missing people from the sunken Filo Jet passenger ship in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus continue uninterrupted, a new search and rescue ship dispatched to the region from Turkey is expected to reach the shipwreck area and change the course of the operations.
Critical Phase in Search Operations
A critical phase has been reached in the search and rescue operations launched following the sinking of the passenger ship named Filo Jet in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel announced to the public that teams are continuing their efforts uninterrupted on a 24-hour basis to reach the 14 missing people.
New Search Ship Arriving from Turkey
It is anticipated that a new, well-equipped search and rescue ship departing from Turkey will reach the shipwreck area in the evening hours and join the operations without losing time.
Plans to Enter the Wreckage
Thanks to the advanced technical capabilities of the new ship, it is aimed to enter the interior of the ship wreckage located at a depth of 554 meters in the sea.
Background of the Disaster and Current Status
Operating between Kyrenia and Mersin Taşucu, the Filo Jet began taking on water shortly after leaving Kyrenia on August 30 and sank while attempting to return to the port.
Out of a total of 267 passengers and crew members on board, 239 people were rescued alive, while search activities for the 14 missing people continue off the coast of Kyrenia.
