700 million lira fraud operation in 10 provinces centered in Mardin
In an investigation targeting individuals who defrauded citizens via the internet and social media, 15 suspects were detained, and 6 of those referred to the court were arrested.
In line with the investigation conducted by the Kızıltepe Chief Public Prosecutor's Office under the coordination of the Mardin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, simultaneous operations were carried out in 10 provinces against suspects determined to have committed fraud via the internet and social media platforms.
Fraud Methods and MASAK Investigation
It was determined that the suspects deceived citizens with promises of car rentals, extra work at home, mobile phones, auto spare parts, and the sale of agricultural and livestock equipment.
Examinations conducted on raw data obtained from the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) revealed that there was a total transaction volume of 700 million liras in the suspects' accounts.
Simultaneous Raids in Ten Provinces
Within the scope of the investigation, raids were organized on designated addresses in Mersin, İzmir, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Samsun, Muş, İstanbul, Gaziantep, and Bitlis, centered in Mardin.
Teams from the Mardin Provincial Gendarmerie Command's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime and Cyber Crimes branch directorates jointly carried out the operation.
Seized Evidence and Arrests
During the searches conducted at the addresses, 1 handgun, 30 cartridges, 2 magazines, along with numerous digital materials and communication devices were seized.
Out of 15 suspects referred to the courthouse after their procedures at the gendarmerie, 6 were arrested by the court they were brought before, while the others were released under judicial control conditions.
