Access Blocked for Disinformation Posts in Narin Güran Case
Following judicial decisions upheld by the Court of Cassation, an access block decision was issued for 99 accounts determined to be spreading misleading and false information to the public.
The Diyarbakır Criminal Judgeship of Peace blocked access to 99 social media accounts determined to have made disinformation-laden posts against the finalized judicial decisions rendered in the Narin Güran case.
Access Block Decision Issued
As a result of examinations conducted by the Diyarbakır Criminal Judgeship of Peace, accounts producing false and misleading content following the Court of Cassation process regarding the Narin Güran murder case were targeted.
With the court decision, access blocking was imposed on a total of 99 social media accounts determined to have carried out disinformation activities against the finalized judicial decision.
Background of the Incident and Investigation Process
The lifeless body of 8-year-old Narin Güran, who went missing on August 21, 2024, in Tavşantepe Neighborhood of Bağlar district in Diyarbakır, was found in Eğertutmaz Stream on September 19, 2024.
As a result of the ongoing investigation and trial, in the case concluded on December 28, 2024, the court sentenced some family members to aggravated life imprisonment.
Court Decisions and Court of Cassation Process
The court sentenced Narin Güran's mother Yüksel Güran, her uncle Salim Güran, and her brother Enes Güran to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of premeditated murder against a child in complicity.
Neighbor Nevzat Bahtiyar, who carried the lifeless body to the stream, was initially sentenced for concealing evidence, and was sentenced to 17 years in prison in the retrial following the reversal decision of the Court of Cassation.
