Airplane Trails in the Skies Over Antalya Spark Social Media Debate
Long white trails appearing in the sky over Antalya have led to various claims on social media. The Center for Combating Disinformation stated that the trails are natural contrails caused by water vapor condensation at high altitudes.
On September 27, white trails formed behind aircraft in the city center of Antalya, spreading in parallel across the sky, were photographed by social media users and shared with various claims.
Claims on Social Media and Rainfall Warning
On the same day that the General Directorate of Meteorology issued a warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms in Antalya, the white trails left behind by aircraft in the sky drew attention.
Some social media users alleged that the planes were spraying chemicals and conducting aerial spraying, citing the fact that the trails did not dissipate quickly and instead expanded.
Explanation of Contrails from the DMM
The Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) had previously announced in response to similar claims that the trails left behind by aircraft are known as "contrails."
In its statement, the DMM emphasized that these trails occur when hot exhaust gas at high altitudes meets cold, humid air, causing water vapor to condense, and that these trails have no effect on controlling weather events or preventing precipitation.
