Discussions on TikTok's Closure Begin in Turkey After US Ban

TikTok, which has over 170 million users in the US, was banned by a Supreme Court decision due to national security concerns and data collection practices. Following this development, the platform's future and a potential ban decision in Turkey have also received widespread public attention.
Closure Agenda in Turkey
Hüseyin Yayman, Chairman of the TBMM Digital Media Commission, stated that TikTok is incompatible with societal values and has become a national security issue.
Yayman emphasized that, in line with numerous complaints from citizens, a strong public expectation for the platform's closure has emerged.
Expert Opinions and Publishing Policy
Social Media Researcher Ümit Sanlav made evaluations suggesting that the current situation in Turkey could result in TikTok's closure in the country as well.
Officials stated that the platform must fundamentally change its publishing policy, indicating that otherwise, sanctions might be inevitable.
