Arrests Made in Investigation Targeting Stock Market Manipulation and Social Media Gangs

As part of investigations targeting structures that generate unfair gains and tamper with share prices in the stock market, numerous suspects, including fund managers, were arrested, interim measures were placed on their assets, and access blocks were imposed on hundreds of social media accounts.

Market Fraud Examinations

Suspicious movements in capital markets, Ponzi-like fraud methods, and stock manipulations came under scrutiny.

As a result of examinations conducted within the scope of Article 107 of the Capital Market Law, manipulative transactions were detected in certain funds and equity markets.

Steps Toward Fund Managers

In the judicial process initiated in line with reports from the Laundering Offenses Investigation Bureau and the Capital Markets Board (SPK), 4 suspects, including chairmen and members of fund boards of directors, were arrested.

Additionally, judicial control measures in the form of travel bans abroad were applied to 51 suspects, and interim measures were placed on all their assets, including bank accounts.

Access Blocks on Social Media Accounts

Simultaneous steps were taken against social media accounts that tampered with share prices by creating panic among investors.

Access blocks were decided for 246 social media accounts identified as making speculative posts, and the decision was forwarded to the Presidency of Cybersecurity.

Separate Investigation in Bakırköy

In an investigation conducted by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office targeting account holders attempting to manipulate the market via social media, 16 suspects were arrested.

As a result of the investigation conducted upon the determination that unusual fluctuations were created within this year, an indictment was prepared against 41 suspects.

Statements by Minister of Justice Gürlek

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek stated that judicial processes are being meticulously pursued to protect the healthy functioning of the market.

Gürlek emphasized that no one attempting to exploit the sweat of citizens will be tolerated.
