The imposition of an access ban on the T24 news website and its social media accounts within the scope of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office triggered a joint reaction from thirteen press professional organizations.

Grounds for the Access Block Decision

Within the scope of the 'Family is Safe' investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an access block decision was issued regarding T24 by the Istanbul 1st Criminal Judgeship of Peace.

The decision cited 118 LGBTI+-themed contents published by T24 over the past year, alleging that these contents constituted 'LGBTI propaganda'.

How the Process Developed

It was reported that the access block decision was made on September 29, and access was blocked after it was reflected in the records of the Information and Communication Technologies Authority on September 30.

Severe Statement from Press Organizations

Thirteen press professional organizations came together to issue a joint statement, describing the imposed ban as a heavy attack on their profession.

The statement emphasized that the blocking decision targeting the T24 portal is a severe violation of press and freedom of expression.

Interference with the Right to Receive News

The published joint declaration stated that the practice in question not only targets the press but also directly prevents citizens from acquiring up-to-date information.

Joint Call and Solidarity

Stating that the decision must be revoked immediately, the press organizations announced to the public that they will continue to defend the journalism profession and their colleagues.
