Operation launched against social media influencers in 10 provinces based in Istanbul
As part of an investigation coordinated by the prosecutor's office, figures broadcasting on various platforms were taken to the police station.
Under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, simultaneous operations were carried out across 10 provinces based in Istanbul targeting individuals broadcasting on TikTok, Instagram, and X platforms.
Scope of the Operation
A simultaneous operation was organized based in Istanbul, covering the provinces of Ankara, Antalya, Bursa, Kocaeli, Muğla, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Malatya, and Elazığ.
As part of the operation, a total of 10 individuals broadcasting on social media platforms were detained.
Reason for the Investigation
It was stated that the suspects included content in their live broadcasts involving fights, threats, insults, tension, victimization, and shares contrary to family structure.
Examinations were conducted regarding the suspects who were stated to have acted together in order to generate digital income through these broadcasts.
Articles under which Proceedings were Initiated
It was reported that legal proceedings were initiated against the suspects within the scope of the relevant articles of the Turkish Penal Code.
In this context, proceedings were carried out regarding the crimes of TCK 216 inciting the public to hatred and hostility or degrading, and TCK 226 obscenity.
Names Detained
Among the suspects detained in the operation were well-known figures such as Semih Varol and Onur Sermik.
It was announced that the other detained individuals were Cansum Kaya, Ferhat Billor, Çağlayan Yıldırım, Elif Akdemir, Onur Can Güzel, Mehmet Emin Citer, Mehmet Aden Arslan, and Sinan Kaya.
Proceedings at the Police Station
Tests were administered to the detained suspects to detect the use of drugs or stimulant substances.
It was reported that the legal proceedings of the suspects at the police station are ongoing.
