A new Action Plan aimed at regulating children's social media use in Southern Cyprus has been approved and adopted by the Greek Cypriot Council of Ministers.

The Council of Ministers, gathered under the chairmanship of Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Christodoulides, officially approved the Action Plan setting the social media access age at 15.
With the newly approved plan, it is aimed to restrict access to digital platforms for children under the age of 15.
High Usage Rate and Rationale
It was announced by official sources that the rate of social media use among youth in Southern Cyprus has reached 98 percent.
The government is implementing this regulation to protect children against various risks they may encounter in the digital environment.

The legal regulation to be prepared within the scope of the Action Plan is expected to be brought to the agenda of the Greek Cypriot Parliament and discussed as soon as possible.
Age Verification Mechanisms
For the new system to work smoothly, it is planned to develop an age verification mechanism through the Digital Citizen application.
