The Ministry of Justice is establishing special bureaus within the chief public prosecutor's offices of 175 heavy penal centers across Turkey in order to combat crimes committed on social media and digital platforms more swiftly.
Purpose of Establishing the New Bureaus
A new era is beginning in the judicial fight against crimes committed on social media and digital platforms. The Ministry of Justice aims to act more rapidly, from the detection of crime-constituting content in the digital environment to the investigation process.
Fields of Activity and Objectives
According to the statement by Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, the newly established Digital Environment Security and Disinformation Combat Bureaus will carry out work regarding content that constitutes a crime or encourages crime in digital environments.
Protection of Youth and Children
In the new structuring, special emphasis will be placed on the risks faced by children and young people in the digital environment. Within this scope, content leading children to crime, violence, or abuse will be closely monitored.
Acceleration of Judicial Processes
Judicial processes will be expedited for unlawful content; the aim is to contribute to the more effective execution of related judicial processes in cases where criminal suspicion is detected and to identify suspects.
Specialization and Coordination
With the bureaus implemented in the chief public prosecutor's offices of 175 heavy penal centers throughout Turkey, it is targeted to increase specialization in investigations and establish a coordinated structure in the fight against digital crimes.
