With the new communiqué published by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance within the scope of the Tax Procedure Law, shopping and advertisement transactions carried out on social media platforms have been included in tax obligations.

New Regulation and Its Scope

With the communiqué published by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, shopping and advertisement transactions on social media platforms have officially entered into tax obligations.

Along with developing technology, there has been a significant increase in commercial activities carried out on social media channels as well as e-commerce sites.

Responsibilities Imposed on Platforms

With the newly published regulation, important responsibilities have been imposed on social media channels, and it has been made mandatory to identify the taxpayer.

It is aimed to track all advertisement and sales transactions carried out on platforms such as Facebook, X, and Instagram.

Obligation to Report Information

It has been made a requirement to report the sales transactions and the information belonging to the parties to the Revenue Administration.

It has become a legal obligation for social media platforms to disclose the taxable event and transmit the relevant data to the Turkish administrative authorities.

Current Practices

The current regulation is already in force, and the Turkey representative offices of social media platforms have also been included in the process.

All advertisement and sales transactions generating revenue, including through representative offices, must be reported to the Revenue Administration.
