Investigation Launched Into Footage of Tree Cutting at a Middle School in Samsun

Footage showing students cutting down trees with a chainsaw and an axe in the schoolyard of Çarşıköy Secondary School in Samsun's Ayvacık district was reported to CİMER. Following these developments, the Samsun Provincial Directorate of National Education launched an investigation into the matter.

Complaint Filed with CİMER

Footage recorded at Çarşıköy Secondary School in Samsun's Ayvacık district was reported to the Presidency's Communication Center (CİMER). A citizen recorded with a mobile phone the moments when students were made to cut down trees in the schoolyard using axes and a chainsaw.

Investigation Launched

In line with the complaint and footage submitted to CİMER, an official investigation was initiated by the Samsun Provincial Directorate of National Education. It was reported that an inspector was assigned to examine the incident.

Dangerous Tools Used

It was alleged that the school administration provided dangerous tools such as axes, adzes, and chainsaws to students who should have been in class. Making children work by disregarding their safety drew backlash.

Firewood Transported

It was stated that after the trees were cut down and cut into pieces, they were made to be carried by the students. It was expressed that the cut logs were taken in front of the boiler room by 8th-grade students.

Parent Reaction

Ahmet Sançar, the grandfather of one of the students, reacted to the children being made to work in dangerous jobs. Sançar emphasized that a gasoline-powered tree-cutting motor is a dangerous tool and that students should be in classrooms during class hours.

History of the Trees

Ahmet Sançar stated that the school land previously belonged to him and that he had donated it. He expressed that the cut pine and linden trees were obtained from the Forestry Directorate and planted years ago.
