Nike is being removed from the S&P 100 index
Experiencing a major decline in market value and revenue loss, Nike will be removed on September 21 from the S&P 100 index, where it has been for about 18 years.
Nike, one of the world's leading sportswear brands, has faced the decision of being removed from the S&P 100 index where it has been included for about 18 years due to a sharp drop in market value and revenue loss, and this change will take effect on September 21, 2026.
Decision to Remove from the Index
According to the official announcement made by S&P Dow Jones Indices, structural changes are being made to the S&P 100 index, which covers the 100 largest companies in the US. Nike, which has been in this prestigious index for about 18 years, was among the companies removed from the list as a result of financial contractions.
Market Value and Revenue Loss
The company's market value decreased by $220 billion as a result of sharp share declines, falling to the level of $57 billion. Announcing that it generated $46.4 billion in revenue while losing 2 percent of its revenue on an annual basis in the 2026 fiscal year, the brand experienced an 11 percent drop especially in its sales in the Chinese market.
Competition Pressure and Performance
The direct-to-consumer sales strategy damaging relations with traditional channels, slowdowns in product innovation, and shifts in brand perception negatively affected the company's performance. The global strengthening of competing brands such as Anta, Li-Ning, and HOKA also increased the pressure.
Stock Value Losses
Along with growing investor concerns, Nike shares lost 48 percent of their value in the last 12 months and about 33 percent in the last six months. Company shares completed the last trading session with a decline of around 1 percent at the level of $38.40.
Latest Status in the Stock Market
Being removed from the S&P 100 index does not mean that the brand's transactions on the New York Stock Exchange will end. Nike shares will continue to be traded on the NYSE, and the company will maintain its position in the S&P 500 index.
