Turkish Men's National Volleyball Team starts European Championship with a defeat

The Turkish Men's National Volleyball Team faced Germany in their first match of the 2026 CEV European Championship Group D. Losing the match 3-1, the nationals started the tournament with a defeat.

Advantage in the First Set

In the first set of the match, both teams traded service errors, leaving Turkey trailing by 2 points early on. Then, catching a 4-point run, the nationals brought the score to 7-5.

Gaining an advantage during Adis Lagumdzija's service turn, the crescent-star team extended the lead to 4 points and maintained their advantage to win the first set 25-23.

Germany's Second Set Dominance

Germany made a fast start to the second set with a 5-1 lead. Turkey equalized at 7-7 with points found from spikes and reached double digits in the set.

Being effective in attack, Germany gained a 3-point advantage. Although Turkey closed the gap to tie the score at 19-19, Germany won the second set 25-22.

Germany's Advantage in the Third Set

Starting the third set well, Germany managed to establish an 8-5 lead. Making fewer errors and producing points with spikes, the opposing team finished this set ahead at 25-21.

Fourth Set and Match Result

In the fourth set, both teams traded points, with the first 10 plays passing in a 5-5 tie. Following a 4-point lead captured by Germany, Turkey brought the score to 14-14.

Germany took back the lead with a 6-1 run and won the set 25-19, and the match 3-1. The match played at the BT Arena hall lasted 120 minutes.
