Google has launched a special application box to enable users in Turkey to remove their personal information from the search engine.

Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK) President Prof. Dr. Faruk Bilir announced that Google has opened a new application box specifically for Turkey to remove personal information from the search engine.

Important Statement from the KVKK President

Personal Data Protection Authority President Prof. Dr. Faruk Bilir made significant evaluations at TEKNOFEST held at Şanlıurfa GAP Airport.

Bilir stated that it is the most natural right of citizens for previously published information not to be visible on digital media and search engines.

Application Process via Google

Stating that search engines constantly bring up past information and that individuals are disturbed by this, Bilir explained the operation of the process.

Bilir noted that Google has opened an application box specific to Turkey, and that the information requested to be removed is entered here.

It was stated that Google is obliged to respond within 30 days regarding whether this information can be removed or not.

Application to the Board in Case of a Negative Response

It was conveyed that if Google gives a negative response to the application made, the process continues before the Personal Data Protection Authority.

It was reported that upon a negative response, citizens can apply to the authority and the issue is evaluated by the board.

Artificial Intelligence and Privacy Balance

Touching upon the relationship between artificial intelligence and privacy in his statements, Prof. Dr. Faruk Bilir emphasized that technology and privacy are not opposing concepts.

It was underlined that artificial intelligence should be approached in a human-centric and transparent manner.
