Amazon Prime Video has rolled out a new AI-based technology that aligns actors' lip movements with the dubbed language. First applied in the series Maxton Hall, this feature aims to make the viewing experience more realistic.
How the Technology Works
According to the statement made by Prime Video, the system combines artificial intelligence and visual effects technologies to make translated speech perfectly match the lip movements.
An Era Starting with Maxton Hall
For now, the new feature is only available in the English dub of the German production Maxton Hall. The platform plans to expand this technology for more content in the future.
The lip synchronization feature is available to subscribers worldwide for the first two seasons of the series. Additionally, this technology will continue to be actively used with the third season premiering on December 9.
Sectoral Competition and Past Experiences
Similar technology involving automatic dubbing and lip-sync features has previously been introduced for content creators by Meta and YouTube.
Last year, Amazon conducted AI-powered dubbing experiments in English and Spanish across 12 different productions, such as El Cid: La Leyenda and Mi Mamá Lora.
