It is claimed that Apple may skip the iPhone 19 naming convention and directly announce the iPhone 20 series for its 20th anniversary in 2027. While it is stated that the company may follow a strategy similar to its past iPhone X move, the device is expected to feature a new glass-focused design and under-display sensors.

According to assessments by market research firm Omdia experts, Apple may skip the iPhone 19 naming and transition directly to the iPhone 20 series specifically for the 20th anniversary of the original iPhone's release in 2007.

The company made a similar move in 2017 while celebrating its 10th anniversary, bypassing the iPhone 9 name and introducing the iPhone X model, which removed the home button.

Analyst Views and Reports

Analysts are not yet in complete agreement regarding leaks. A report published by Jefferies in August 2026 still refers to the devices as iPhone 19, indicating that the decision on this matter has not yet been fully reflected in the marketing schedule.

Revolutionary Design Expectations

According to Bloomberg technology editor Mark Gurman, Apple is working on a new glass-focused design that will offer the most radical visual change since the iPhone X.

A nearly seamless glass feel is targeted, where the front and back glass curve toward the edges of the device, and the metal frame is concealed within the internal structure.

Production Challenges and Prototypes

In August 2026, Jefferies analyst Edison Lee suggested that the glass-heavy chassis was abandoned due to high manufacturing costs and yield issues.

Mark Gurman, on the other hand, confirmed that while the completely metal-free prototype was shelved, the project for a curved glass coating over a metal skeleton continues to be developed on schedule.
