ByteDance Expands AI Data Centre Cluster in Inner Mongolia
ByteDance plans to increase its data centre capacity in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, over the next two years to strengthen its artificial intelligence infrastructure.
TikTok parent company ByteDance is preparing to expand its computing capacity over the next two years by building new data centres in Ulanqab, located in northern China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
AI Infrastructure Investments
TikTok parent company ByteDance is taking new steps as part of the process by which China's leading tech giants are accelerating their investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure.
According to sources close to the matter, the company aims to build more data centres in Ulanqab, located in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in northern China.
Ulanqab and Jining District
The planned massive AI data centre cluster is envisioned to be positioned in the Jining district of Ulanqab.
This region is known as a hub that has previously attracted computing facility investments from major technology companies such as Huawei Technologies, Kuaishou, Alibaba Group Holding and Apple.
Capacity Increase and Delivery Schedule
Sources requesting anonymity due to the information being confidential stated that the company has held preliminary discussions with local data centre suppliers.
In line with the plans made, it is aimed to bring an additional computing capacity ranging between five and six gigawatts to Ulanqab.
It is noted that ByteDance aims to complete the delivery of this large-scale project by early 2028.
