Victor Gao, Vice President of the Center for China and Globalization, made significant evaluations at the Penang Peace Dialogue meeting held in Malaysia. Criticizing Washington's strategy, Gao stated that the US is weaponizing and militarizing artificial intelligence.

Military Use of Artificial Intelligence

Gao stated that the US is integrating artificial intelligence technology into a wide range of systems, from drones to ballistic missiles. Arguing that this situation poses a global risk, Gao compared China's open-source development model with American closed-source strategies.

Rare Earth Elements and Global Balance

Stating that China's control over rare earth elements eliminates the chance for the United States to use this technology for malicious purposes, Gao emphasized that China is determined to prevent the misuse of artificial intelligence.

Call for International Cooperation from Experts

Speaking at the meeting, Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, expressed that Silicon Valley companies have close relations with the Pentagon. Sachs and other experts stated that international governance frameworks are needed to limit the use of technology for military purposes.
