Google's New AI Weather Model WeatherNext 3 Announced
Google DeepMind and Google Research have announced a new AI weather model offering high resolution, advanced rain forecasts, and hourly reports.
The artificial intelligence-based weather forecasting model WeatherNext 3, developed by Google DeepMind and Google Research, has been officially introduced. Analyzing atmospheric changes more clearly, the new system has managed to outperform traditional forecasts as well as other AI models.
WeatherNext 3 Model Introduced
Scientists within Google DeepMind and Google Research have shared with the public the new AI model that observes atmospheric movements more clearly and predicts behaviors more frequently. As part of the transformation in meteorology through deep learning techniques, the system will take its place in Google search results, Maps, and Gemini.
Accuracy and Test Successes
The new model has proven to have the highest accuracy among leading competitors tested on Operational WeatherBench. The system outperformed traditional forecasting methods as well as other deep learning models developed by Microsoft, Nvidia, and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts.
Technical Improvements and Resolution
WeatherNext 3 comes with many significant improvements compared to the previous version. The model can make predictions at a resolution down to 5 kilometers and can produce hourly forecasts instead of standard six-hour forecasts.
Rain Forecasts and Parameters
According to evaluations, the model's rain forecasts perform 60 percent better compared to the previous version, WeatherNext 2. Additionally, the system contains 2.4 times more parameters than its predecessor and has been trained to target specific weather stations.
