The Institute of Transport Science and Technology (ISTT) celebrated its 70th anniversary, covering the period from October 4, 1956, to October 4, 2026, with a grand ceremony held in Hanoi.

Establishment and Historical Development

Dr. Tran Bao Ngoc, Party Secretary and Director of the Institute of Transport Science and Technology, touched upon the origins of the institution, which is a public service unit under the Ministry of Construction. The institute was previously established as the Material Testing Institute pursuant to Decree No. 96-ND dated October 4, 1956, issued by the Ministry of Transport and Posts.

Duties and Fields of Activity

The primary functions of the institution include scientific research, technology transfer, and the preparation of technical standards and regulations. In addition, postgraduate education, technical and professional development, and consultancy activities are among the duties of the institute.

Wartime Period and Significant Achievements

Renamed the Transport Engineering Institute in 1961, the institution served directly on the science and technology front during the most intense period of the resistance war against the US. In 1972, in cooperation with the Engineering Corps, successful research was conducted to clear magnetic mines and bombs in the port of Hai Phong.

Awards and Modern Era

The mine-clearing research in the port of Hai Phong was deemed worthy of the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Science and Technology in 1996. The year 1996 also marked an important turning point with the institution officially taking the name Institute of Transport Science and Technology.
