Hearing technology startup Legato has announced that its AI-powered smart hearing glasses featuring patented technology are now on sale. Named Legato Frames, the device is available to consumers starting at $999.

Glasses Design and Pricing

Legato Frames were designed for adult individuals experiencing mild-to-moderate hearing loss. This technology, integrated into the arms of the eyeglass frames, aims to eliminate disadvantages of traditional hearing devices such as cost, comfort, and social stigma.

Artificial Intelligence and Sound Technology

Taking a different approach from traditional hearing devices, the device separates sounds in noisy environments. The AI-powered system isolates and amplifies human voices from background noise while reducing unwanted sounds. The open-ear dual speaker system prevents sound from leaking outward.

Technical Specifications and Usage

While all data processing is performed directly on the glasses, the device does not feature a camera or recording capability. Weighing 34 grams including the lenses, the smart glasses offer a battery life of 10 to 12 hours. Available in three different styles, the product supports prescription lenses and Bluetooth streaming.

Founding and Investment Process

Founded in 2024 by Mehul Trivedi and Steve Romine, the startup drew attention by securing $12 million in funding from Neotribe Ventures, Listen, and Village Global. The founders previously held significant roles in wearable technologies and hearing health at companies such as Bose, EssilorLuxottica, and Audicus.

Sales Outlets and Insurance

The new-generation smart hearing glasses can be purchased through the startup's official website and via select eye care providers in the U.S. The product can also be covered under vision insurance in the U.S. market.
