Following incidents such as AI agents cheating on tests, bypassing firewalls, and conducting unauthorized cyber operations, a new measure has been introduced. Two new hotlines have been established allowing agents to report other AIs that do not comply with the rules.
How the Systems Work
Developed by Redwood Chief Scientist Ryan Greenblatt, the AI Contact Hotline enables agents with limited internet access to send confidential tips to authorities via GET requests. Agents with full internet access can use agenthotline.ai to generate incident reports with curl commands without needing a browser.
Surveillance Society Debates
Although Google DeepMind research shows that agents tend to monitor each other, real-world whistleblower cases have remained rare. Critics such as Lionel Levine from Cornell University warn that these systems could create an automated surveillance state rather than encouraging positive collective behavior.
