New rainy weather wave and drop in temperature across Turkey
Meteorology and AKOM warned citizens against the cool air and heavy thunderstorms expected to be effective across the country.
The General Directorate of Meteorology and the Disaster Coordination Center issued warnings against a new rainy weather wave and temperature drop expected to take effect across Turkey. With the new week, air temperatures are forecasted to drop noticeably and leave their place to cool weather.
Drop in air temperatures
With the new week, air temperatures are estimated to decrease significantly in the northern, inner, and western parts, leaving their place to cool air. It was reported that the northeasterly wind (poyraz) will blow harshly and intermittently strongly at speeds of 10 to 40 kilometers per hour across the region.
It was announced that with the effect of the cool air carried by the northeasterly wind, thermometers hovering around 28-30 degrees during the daytime will drop below 20 degrees at night and in the early morning hours, creating a noticeable coolness.
Wave of precipitation across the country
According to the 5-day weather forecast maps published by the General Directorate of Meteorology, a new rainy system will enter the country starting from the western parts as of Sunday. Thunderstorm showers will begin on Sunday in the western part of Marmara and the North Aegean coasts.
It is predicted that the rainy weather will expand its area of influence across Marmara and the Western Black Sea on Monday, and will continue locally along the Black Sea coastline and the western Mediterranean on Tuesday.
It will increase its effect on Wednesday
On Wednesday, it is expected to increase its effect and be effective in the form of strong thunderstorms in a very large part of the country, especially in the Marmara, Aegean, Central Anatolia, Mediterranean, and Black Sea regions.
The rainy system will continue to maintain its effect on Thursday around the Eastern Black Sea, the east of Central Anatolia, the Aegean coasts, and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Warnings for Istanbul
In evaluations made by the Disaster Coordination Center, attention was drawn to the cool air wave and wind coming from the north. It was emphasized that the rainy weather, which will start with local rains in Istanbul and its surroundings on Sunday, will turn into thunderstorms especially on Monday and Wednesday.
In addition, it was stated that up to 15 kilograms of precipitation per square meter could fall on Monday, and citizens were urged to be cautious against potential negative conditions.
