Quality of Vietnamese Scientific Journals is Being Elevated to Scopus and Web of Science Standards

At a national workshop held in Hanoi, the steps that need to be taken to bring scientific journals in Vietnam up to international Scopus and Web of Science standards, strengthen digital infrastructure, and increase academic quality were discussed.

At the national workshop held in Hanoi, the goal was set to elevate Vietnamese scientific journals to Scopus and Web of Science standards. Strengthening digital infrastructure and increasing academic quality were comprehensively addressed at the meeting.

Policy Decisions and the Information Ecosystem

In line with the Politburo's Resolutions No. 57 and 71, it was emphasized that scientific journals must be placed at the center of the information ecosystem. It was stated that journals are not merely publishing outlets, but a fundamental part of the national scientific infrastructure.

Current Situation and Digital Infrastructure Deficiencies

Ministry of Science and Technology officials stated that there are 506 scientific journals nationwide. However, it was reported that more than half of the journals do not have a website to upload structured data or have not established an electronic publishing process.

Experience of the University of Transport Technology

During the workshop, the process by which the journal of the University of Transport Technology was accepted for indexing by Scopus using internal resources was shared. The university's success demonstrated that international standards can be reached with the right strategy and investment.

International Standards and Quality Goal

Delegates noted that Scopus and Web of Science are important references, but the ultimate goal is genuine scientific quality. The importance of independent peer review and adherence to publishing ethics was emphasized.
