The wave of cool and rainy weather entering the country via the Balkans has caused temperatures to drop and shower passages across Turkey.
Cold wave coming from the Balkans
The cool and rainy system entering Turkey via the Balkans in the last days of September has started to be effective in wide parts of the country.
While showers and thunderstorms are observed in the Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean, Central Anatolia, and Black Sea regions, there has also been a noticeable drop in temperatures.
Sea temperatures are effective in the formation of the system
Dr. Güven Özdemir, a Meteorological Engineer from Istanbul Aydın University, stated that the system should not be viewed merely as precipitation coming from the Balkans.
It was emphasized that sea temperatures, humidity, low-pressure structure, and atmospheric instability play an important role in the intensity of the precipitation.
Weekly weather forecast for Istanbul
While Istanbul is expected to see very cloudy weather and intermittent showers today, temperatures are expected to range between 14 and 18 degrees Celsius.
While there is a possibility that precipitation will continue on Wednesday, the system is projected to weaken and decrease its effect starting Thursday and Friday.
Expectations for October and Indian summer
It is stated that precipitation is likely to hover above seasonal normals across Turkey throughout October.
Experts note that this does not mean the entire month will be rainy, but rather that it will present a volatile autumn picture with short-term calm and mild periods.
