Science, Technology, and Digital Transformation Drive the Development of New Rural Areas
The year 2026 marks a new turning point where digital transformation and technological innovations play a crucial role in enhancing rural economic development, infrastructure, and quality of life.
Spanning from infrastructure to the quality of life, the year 2026 constitutes a strategic turning point in the development of new rural areas. Science, technology, and digital transformation are positioned as distinct criteria in this new era.
New Era Criteria
Prime Minister's Decision No. 51/2025/QD-TTg sets the National Criteria Set for New Rural Communes for the 2026-2030 period, comprising a total of 10 criteria and 47 indicators. Along with rural economic development, human resources training, and poverty reduction, science, technology, and digital transformation have been defined as a separate criterion.
The new criteria divide communes into three groups based on their conditions. Group 3 includes communes in regions II and III located in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. Developing the digital economy and establishing smart infrastructure are fundamental requirements for modern new rural communes.
Pilot Implementation in Cam Lo Commune
Cam Lo commune in Quang Tri province is one of the two localities selected to pilot the construction of a modern new rural commune for the 2026-2030 period. Mr. Le Anh Chuong, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, stated that traditional management methods have revealed limitations.
As traditional methods fell short, the commune administration stated that it has implemented a modern model closely linked to science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.
Technological Impact on Agriculture and Production
One of the most prominent impacts of science and technology on rural development is the ability to increase the value of agricultural products. In Tuyen Quang province, product traceability is actively applied alongside safe production processes within the framework of the OCOP program.
There is a total of 357 OCOP products rated 3 stars and above across the province. Similarly, citizens and cooperatives have invested in cage fish farming in the reservoir area of the Lai Chau hydroelectric dam.
Income and Quality of Life
Nguyen Quoc Tuan, Deputy Head of the New Rural Development Coordination Office under the Quang Tri Department of Agriculture and Environment, emphasized that the most vital measure of new rural development is the income of the people.
When technology is applied correctly to meet needs, the new rural development program not only improves appearances but also directly enhances the quality of life for the people.
