Ukrainian authorities have shared critical documents with their European allies indicating that Russia aims to completely disable essential infrastructure in major cities during the winter months.
Ukraine has shown its European partners captured secret plans aimed at cutting off electricity, heat, and water in major cities this winter. Thermal power plants and energy facilities were targeted with missiles in the capital, Kyiv.
Nighttime Attacks in Kyiv
In the capital Kyiv, pre-dawn missiles and drones struck a major thermal power plant and other energy facilities on Wednesday, with explosions shaking the city. Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odesa were among the primary targets.
Secret Documents Targeting Infrastructure
A document shown by Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal to European partners in Paris states that multiple missile, drone, and bomb attacks are planned to collapse the energy system.
Nuclear Power Plants and Water Systems Under Threat
The acquired plans also envision targeting Ukraine's three operating nuclear power plants and water systems. It is stated that Russia aims to largely cut off electricity and heating sources.
Preparations Underway to Protect Critical Facilities
Russian President Vladimir V. Putin had announced that a comprehensive campaign would be launched against energy infrastructure during the winter season. Ukrainian authorities, meanwhile, have been making preparations for months to protect and repair critical facilities.
