Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz stated that young people should not become asocial with digitalization, noting that social media actually has a structure that isolates individuals.
Speaking at the Necmettin Erbakan University Academic Year Opening, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz emphasized that young people should not become asocial while gaining proficiency in digital technologies, drawing attention to the fact that social media isolates individuals.
Era of Specialization in Universities
Attending the 2026-2027 Academic Year Opening Program of Necmettin Erbakan University in Konya, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz drew attention to the transformation and goals in the higher education system. Stating that universities should not be institutions that merely produce theoretical knowledge, he said that true development begins with knowledge turning into production, employment, and social welfare.
Expressing that they want universities that differentiate and specialize rather than carbon-copy institutions across Turkey, Yılmaz emphasized that specialization is supported in strategic areas such as artificial intelligence, digital technologies in health, energy, and food biotechnology.
Social Media and the Risk of Becoming Asocial
Touching upon the importance of young people becoming proficient in digital technologies and artificial intelligence, Cevdet Yılmaz warned that face-to-face communication and social ties should not be severed while technology usage increases.
Drawing attention to the risk of isolation brought by digitalization, Yılmaz stated that young people should not become asocial, expressing that social media is a structure that isolates people and detaches them from society, and noting his belief in the importance of teamwork.
Connection Between Education and the Production World
Stating that the bond between education and the production world should not be left until after graduation, Yılmaz advised students not to view internship and practical programs as mere formalities.
Conveying that programs disconnected from employment are being removed from the system and new departments aligned with the expectations of the industry are being opened, Yılmaz announced the good news that 3,000 young researchers will be trained in the fields of cybersecurity, informatics, and artificial intelligence within 5 years under the Turkey Strategic Technology Human Resources Program.
Importance of Labor and Sweat of the Brow
Touching upon the perception of easy earnings and changing popular culture norms in his speech, the Vice President emphasized the importance of the sweat of the brow and labor.
He stated that it must be conveyed to the younger generation that 1 lira earned through labor is much more valuable than 10 liras obtained without effort.
