South African Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Blade Nzimande highlighted the critical importance of relations with China at the 2026 Pujiang Innovation Forum held in Shanghai, stating that cooperation in artificial intelligence, space science, quantum computing, and cybersecurity needs to be increased.

South African Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Blade Nzimande made statements within the scope of the 2026 Pujiang Innovation Forum held in Shanghai, China.

Minister Nzimande emphasized that the partnership between the two countries is one of the most critical components of bilateral relations and is based on solidarity and multilateral engagement.

New Areas for Cooperation

The partnership between the two countries aims to be expanded to cover strategic areas such as artificial intelligence, joint research centers, space science, and astronomy.

Modern technology topics such as quantum computing, cybersecurity, and the support of youth are also among the priority agenda items between the parties.

Expanding Scope and Young Researchers

Numerous different disciplines, such as health, traditional medicine, forestry, paleontology, and energy research, are also among the existing areas of cooperation.

Through the Young Scientists Exchange Program, scholarships, laboratory assignments, and mentorship opportunities are provided to support the next generation of researchers.

Joint Vision for the Future

Nzimande stated that they will continue to work with China to build a future where innovation is shared and technology is used responsibly.

The forum, held this year from September 11 to 14, focuses on the mission of the global science and technology community in the new revolution.
