On September 30, 2026, the Ministry of Science and Technology organized a workshop in Hanoi to present the summary of Program 562—covering Chemistry, Life Sciences, Earth Sciences, and Marine Sciences—for the 2017-2025 period, evaluating its eight-year results.

Purpose and Scope of the Workshop

The workshop, held by the Ministry of Science and Technology in Hanoi, convened to emphasize that fundamental scientific research forms the basis for the long-term development of science, technology, and innovation.

During the meeting, the achievements attained throughout the eight-year implementation process of Program 562 were discussed, while shortcomings encountered and paths to be followed in the new period were thoroughly examined.

Assessments by Deputy Minister Tran Trung Tinh

Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Trung Tinh stated that investing in basic sciences means investing in new knowledge, competent teams of scientists, and national scientific capacity.

Tran Trung Tinh noted that while positive results have been achieved over the 8-year period, certain limitations still exist regarding resources, infrastructure, and connections with applied research.

Proposed Key Focuses for the New Period

The Deputy Minister suggested that the workshop focus particularly on evaluating program results, reviewing investment mechanisms, and determining the 2026-2030 period and the 2035 vision.

Furthermore, it was emphasized that mechanisms to increase the effectiveness of state investments should be proposed and social resources for innovation should be mobilized.

Implementation Results of Institutions

The Ministry of Education and Training shared its ministerial-level projects that contributed to the training of master's and doctoral students as well as numerous international publications.

The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development also shared their implemented projects, laboratory investments, and funding agreements.

Future Strategies and Goals

The Ministry of Science and Technology continues to comprehensively review basic research activities and formulate the National Strategy for the Development of Fundamental Scientific Research extending to 2045.

The opinions expressed at the workshop will serve as a basis for improving policies to enhance national scientific capacity and shaping long-term investments.
