Harran, one of the oldest settlement centers in the world, holds an important place among the hubs where scientists were raised in the past, with prominent educational institutions such as the Harran School and the School of Edessa previously operating in the region.

Born in Harran and conducting long-term observations for about 41 years, Al-Battani stands among the most significant figures in the history of astronomy through his studies and contributions such as the development of the astrolabe.

Today, in Harran where Al-Battani was born, youth are preparing to exhibit their original projects in science and technology within the scope of TEKNOFEST Southeast, while the Battani Space and Aviation Science Center in the district also welcomes visitors.
