Can Tho University Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology under a Prime Ministerial decree dated September 4, 2026.

Appointment Decision and Official Process

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh, Rector of Can Tho University, was officially appointed to his new position under decree number 1715/QD-TTg signed by the Prime Minister.

Educational and Academic Background

53-year-old Dr. Tran Trung Tinh, hailing from Tay Ninh province, holds a doctorate in Electrical Engineering and has a long-standing academic career.

After graduating from Can Tho University in 1997, Tinh studied in the Netherlands, earned his master's and doctoral degrees from Gyeongsang National University in South Korea, and received the title of Associate Professor in 2013.

Management Experience and Career

Throughout his career, he has served in various critical management positions, including Head of the Electrical Engineering Department and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Technology at Can Tho University.

He served as vice rector from July 2012 to November 2023, as rector from December 2023 to May 2026, and was most recently appointed as university president on May 25, 2026.

With this latest appointment decision, the current senior management structure of the Ministry of Science and Technology has been finalized.
