Turkey Hosts the 77th International Astronautical Congress and Global Summits
Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Kacır shared Turkey's goals in global space studies at the 77th International Astronautical Congress held in Antalya.
Stating that the global space agenda will beat in Turkey between October 5-9 on the occasion of the 77th International Astronautical Congress held in Antalya, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Kacır made statements about the Lunar Mission and new space projects.
International Astronautical Congress Begins in Antalya
Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Kacır made statements to members of the press following the Ministers and Parliamentarians Meeting held in Antalya. He stated that Turkey is hosting important organizations in the fields of aviation, space, and technology this week.
Expressing that more than 12,000 guests from 111 countries and over 40 astronauts will be hosted on the occasion of the congress, Kacır noted that the event constitutes a global consultation platform for the future of space.
Manned Space Research and Experiments
Stating that Turkey has taken important steps within the framework of the National Technology Move and the National Space Program, Kacır recalled the manned space missions carried out by the first astronauts Alper Gezeravcı and Tuva Cihangir Atasever.
Emphasizing that Gezeravcı conducted 13 scientific experiments on the International Space Station and Atasever conducted 7 during his suborbital flight, Kacır stated that Turkey will continue to contribute to manned space research.
Emphasis on Indigenization in Satellite Technologies
Stating that Turkey has entered the ranks of countries capable of sub-meter resolution imaging with the İMECE satellite, Kacır said that with TÜRKSAT 6A, Turkey has become one of the 11 countries capable of producing its own communication satellites.
Conveying that a domestic production capability of over 80 percent has been developed in satellite technologies, Kacır noted that these capabilities will be carried even further with the İMECE-2, İMECE-3, and TÜRKSAT 7A projects.
Lunar Mission and Spaceport Projects
Expressing that Turkey is preparing for deep space studies, Minister Kacır announced that the spacecraft produced with an 87 percent domestic production rate will be sent to the Moon in the first months of 2027.
Stating that with the spaceport project carried out in Somalia, Turkey aims to become a country that reaches space with its own rockets and spaceport, Kacır announced that a space technopark will be established on the METU campus in Ankara.
Emphasis on Space by Fuat Oktay
Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman and Ankara Deputy Fuat Oktay also drew attention to the distance Turkey has covered in the field of space.
Oktay stated that Turkey is in a position where it develops its own satellites, sends its first astronaut into space, and takes steps into deep space studies.
