Vietnam Advances Its Cloud Computing and Artificial Intelligence Ecosystem
Speaking at an event in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Hoang Minh stated that the country is building a technology development ecosystem, not just infrastructure.
Speaking at the AWS Cloud and AI Day event in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Hoang Minh stated that Vietnam's goal is not merely to expand infrastructure, but to build a comprehensive ecosystem where institutions and businesses can develop technology.
Technology Ecosystem Goal
Important statements were made at the AWS Cloud and AI Day event held in Hanoi on September 29.
Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Hoang Minh emphasized that the country aims not only to provide infrastructure, but also to build a framework where institutions and universities can learn new technologies.
Digital Infrastructure and Data Centers
Vietnam's digital infrastructure continues to expand rapidly, with 42 commercial data centers totaling 372 MW of capacity in the country.
While 4G coverage reaches 99.8% of the population, 5G coverage stands at approximately 91.9%.
International Collaborations
U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Jennifer Wicks McNamara drew attention to the importance of technological infrastructure in building an innovative and digitalized economy.
The Ambassador stated that a favorable legal environment is critical for attracting investment and bringing technology into the country.
AWS Investments
Expanding its infrastructure presence in Vietnam over time, AWS officially launched the AWS Local Zone Hanoi on June 19, 2026.
Eric Yeo, Managing Director of AWS Vietnam, noted that the country is increasing its interest in technology, bringing it closer to its goal of becoming ASEAN's artificial intelligence hub by 2030.
Artificial Intelligence Research Findings
According to research conducted by Strand Partners, approximately 26% of businesses in Vietnam have implemented artificial intelligence into their operations.
While the majority of businesses using artificial intelligence report increased efficiency and higher revenues, 61% of businesses are still in the testing phase.
