Vietnam and South Korea Take Steps in Technology and Nuclear Energy Cooperation

Vietnam and South Korea have reached an agreement to carry out joint research projects in the fields of semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and small modular reactors.

During the visit of Vietnam's Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan to South Korea, discussions resulted in the decision to promote joint research between the two countries in semiconductor chips, physical artificial intelligence, and small modular reactors.

High-Level Talks and Cooperation Proposals

Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan met with South Korea's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science, Technology, Information and Communication Bae Kyung-hoon during his visit to South Korea.

The implementation of joint projects in the fields of small modular reactors, semiconductor chips, and physical artificial intelligence was discussed during the meeting.

Bilateral Relations and Working Meetings

Representatives of the two ministries held a comprehensive working meeting at the beginning of October to evaluate cooperation opportunities.

Attention was drawn to the importance of the Master Plan Framework for Scientific and Technological Cooperation signed in April 2026.

South Korea's Technology Priorities

The South Korean side stated that it prioritizes developments in the artificial intelligence, electricity, energy, and shipbuilding sectors.

It was stated that the country plans to double its budget for artificial intelligence development by 2027.

Strategic Partnership and New Projects

Minister Vu Hai Quan requested support regarding the dispatch of experts to Vietnam and the formulation of strategies.

The ODA Smart Factory Project was also discussed during the talks in order to establish a smart factory model.
