Turkey and Iraq Reach Comprehensive Agreement on Security and Development
Following the summit in New York, an agreement was reached between Turkey and Iraq regarding the establishment of state authority in Sinjar, the removal of the PKK, and the transfer of the Bashiqa-Zilkan compound.
As a result of the meeting held in New York between President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zeidi, an important joint press statement was issued addressing security, economy, and strategic projects between the two countries.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zeidi came together in New York to discuss Turkey-Iraq relations in all aspects.
During the meeting held on September 23, 2026, the two leaders demonstrated a joint will to further strengthen cooperation in the field of security.
Decision on State Authority in Sinjar
The published joint statement agreed upon the full establishment of state authority in Sinjar and ending the presence of banned foreign armed elements in the region.
Transfer of the Bashiqa-Zilkan Compound
Depending on the progress made by Iraq in its security practices, Turkish forces will gradually hand over the Bashiqa-Zilkan compound to the Iraqi Federal Government in accordance with a specific mechanism and calendar.
Economy and Development Road Project
During the meeting, economic cooperation was addressed, and it was decided to increase the volume of trade and investment, as well as to accelerate strategic projects, primarily the Development Road Project.
