Consultation Meeting Held in Amman
Turkey, as the COP31 term president, and the Union for the Mediterranean organized the seventh consultation meeting of the Antalya Mediterranean Climate Dialogue series at the Turkish Embassy in Amman.
Joint steps regarding the region's climate problems and the enhancement of international cooperation were addressed at the meeting.
Key Figures Attending the Meeting
Princess Dana Firas of Jordan, Special Representative of the COP Climate Legacy Network, participated in the consultation meeting.
Jordanian Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman, UfM Deputy Secretary General Joan Borrell, and Mehmet Taylan Tokmak, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Amman representing Turkey, also took part in the meeting.
Goals for Implementable Solutions on the Ground
Mehmet Taylan Tokmak stated that the results of the consultations held with Mediterranean countries will be compiled to develop concrete projects for the region.
Stating that Turkey aims to increase international cooperation, Tokmak noted that they want to produce implementable solutions on the ground, moving beyond rhetoric.
The Rate at Which the Mediterranean is Affected by Global Warming
In statements made by Mehmet Taylan Tokmak, attention was drawn to the vulnerability of the Mediterranean basin to the climate crisis.
Tokmak emphasized that the Mediterranean is affected by global warming twenty percent more than other regions of the world.
Regional Ownership from Security to Climate
It was announced that the understanding of regional ownership will not be limited only to the field of security, but will also be adopted in the fight against climate change.
It is aimed for the countries of the region to act together against the problems caused by the climate crisis.
Details of the Summit to Take Place in Antalya
The city of Antalya will host the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change between November 9-20.
Sessions will be conducted under the chairmanship of Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum, upon the decision of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
An Action-Oriented COP Goal
It is planned to translate theoretical rhetoric into action in the sessions to be held under Turkey's term presidency.
Accordingly, the summit is targeted to be fully an implementation COP.
