Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş announced during her visit to the Syrian capital, Damascus, that Turkey's foster family model has also been put into practice in this country.

Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş visited the Syrian capital Damascus, made statements to journalists, and made various evaluations.

Foster Family Model

Minister Göktaş stated that experiences in the fields of women, children, families, and disability were mutually shared during meetings with Syrian officials.

Stating that Syrian officials were initially hesitant, Göktaş noted that after their own system was explained, abandoned babies in Syria began to be placed with foster families.

Family-Focused Services

Emphasizing that their priority is always family-focused services, Göktaş expressed that children are first ensured to return to their own families.

It was stated that in cases where returning to one's own family is not possible, children are directed to foster family or adoption services.

Social Support and Projects

It was shared that within the scope of marriage loan support for youth carried out by the Ministry, 120,000 couples aged between 18 and 29 were married.

It was recorded that approximately 19,000 babies were born from these marriages and a total of 25 billion lira in birth assistance was provided.
