2026 International Peace Convocation to Take Place in Korea
Led by the World Council of Churches and partners, the international gathering aims to bring together the Korean Peninsula and global conflict zones around the axis of peace.
The 2026 International Peace Convocation, organized in partnership with the World Council of Churches, the Christian Conference of Asia, and the National Council of Churches in Korea, will address issues of just peace and reconciliation.
Purpose of the Co-Organized Convocation
The 2026 International Peace Convocation is being brought to life through the partnership of the World Council of Churches, the Christian Conference of Asia, and the National Council of Churches in Korea.
Global Conflicts and the Quest for Peace
Prepared to reflect the churches' call for a just peace amid an environment of escalating wars and conflicts, this process connects the realities of global conflict zones with the Korean Peninsula.
Sub-Themes and Workshops
While sub-themes to be addressed throughout the event include “Just Peace and the Role of the Church,” workshop topics encompass civil society peacebuilding and the role of youth.
Closing Statement and Visits
The conference will conclude with the adoption of a Peace Statement, and participants will visit significant sites in terms of Korea's democratic history.
High-Level Participation and Meetingss
While the World Council of Churches delegation is led by the general secretary and commission director, the delegation will hold meetings with South Korea's new prime minister and the Catholic Bishops' Conference.
Demilitarized Zone and General Assemblies
Following the conference, a Demilitarized Zone Peace Pilgrimage will be held on September 12, after which the general assemblies of the respective churches will convene.
