90 universities from Turkey ranked in world science rankings

According to the 2025-2026 field ranking results announced by the URAP Research Laboratory, 90 universities from Turkey were featured among the world's best higher education institutions and represented across various scientific disciplines.

Ranking Criteria and Scope

In the 2025-2026 field rankings prepared by the URAP Research Laboratory, the world's best universities were listed according to a total of 78 different scientific fields and subjected to a comprehensive evaluation.

The universities' academic performances over the past five years, number of articles, impact of total documents and citations, as well as international cooperation metrics were examined in detail.

Global Distribution and Country Standings

This year, 2,566 universities from 121 countries worldwide succeeded in finding a place in at least one field ranking, achieving broad participation on a global scale.

While China ranked first with 422 universities, the USA and India made their mark on the rankings with 293 and 146 universities respectively; Turkey increased its number of universities from 89 last year to 90.

Leading Universities and Distribution of Turkish Institutions

While Harvard University ranked first in the world in 19 different fields, it was followed by China's Tsinghua University with 15 fields.

Turkish universities were represented in the rankings most heavily in the field of medicine-health sciences with 82 institutions and in the field of engineering with 36 institutions.

Prominent Universities in Turkey

Istanbul Technical University ranked first in Turkey with 28 scientific fields, becoming the most successful higher education institution.

Hacettepe University with 21, METU with 20, and Yıldız Technical University with 19 scientific fields secured top positions on the list.
