Attacks on Education Reach Record Levels
The global fund Education Cannot Wait has announced that attacks on education and the military use of schools reached the highest level in history in 2024 and 2025.
According to data shared by Education Cannot Wait, 258 million children across 87 countries are facing severe learning disruptions due to escalating conflicts and declining global norms.
Record Number of Attacks Recorded
The published joint report stated that at least 9,259 attacks on education took place between 2024 and 2025, representing an increase of more than 50 percent compared to the 2022-2023 period.
Students and Educators Targeted
Official reports revealed that more than 10,600 students and educators lost their lives, were injured, or were abducted as a result of these acts of violence.
Call to Comply with International Law
UNESCO drew attention to the obligation to comply with international law and to keep educational institutions away from all kinds of conflict environments.
Children in Conflict Zones
According to the latest UN data, the number of children affected by conflicts in 2025 was recorded as 24,174 out of 38,558 verified violations.
Most Affected Countries
Places with the highest levels of verified violations included Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Myanmar, and Somalia.
New Campaign and Fundraising Efforts
Education Cannot Wait's Hope Starts Here campaign aims to raise $600 million in funding to provide safe and quality education to 10 million children.
