A British Airways passenger aircraft flying from London to Chicago changed its route due to a technical problem in the air and returned smoothly to London Heathrow Airport.

Sudden Loss of Altitude After Takeoff

The Boeing 777 passenger plane departing from London encountered an undetermined technical problem shortly after takeoff and declared an emergency.

According to flight tracking data, while passing over Ireland, the aircraft rapidly descended from an altitude of 36,000 feet to the 9,000-foot level in about seven minutes.

Holding Pattern Over the Bristol Channel

After losing altitude, the aircraft turned back and circled for about four hours over the Bristol Channel in western England.

It was stated that the plane performed maneuvers in the air for a certain period to ensure a safe landing, along with fuel and system checks.

Safe Landing at Heathrow Airport

Directed back to London Heathrow Airport following the technical malfunction, the aircraft landed without issue around 17:00 local time.

While passengers landing at the airport were evacuated normally, the airline company initiated efforts to resolve passenger grievances.

New Travel Arrangements Planned for Passengers

British Airways officials stated that the process was safely navigated thanks to the professional approach of the trained pilots and that passengers' travel plans were being rearranged.

It was noted that, per UK Civil Aviation Authority regulations, passenger accommodation needs would be covered by the company until a new flight is organized.
