Collapse of Five-Story Building in Delhi Leaves Dozens Trapped
Numerous people are trapped under the rubble following the collapse of a five-story residential building in southwest Delhi, as rescue operations continue.
A five-story residential building located in the Satya Niketan neighborhood of southwest Delhi, India's capital, collapsed around noon. At least one person lost their life in the incident, and dozens are feared trapped under the debris.
Building Collapse and Trapped Individuals
The five-story building located in the Satya Niketan neighborhood of southwest Delhi collapsed around 1:30 PM local time. Eyewitnesses reported that approximately 50 people were inside the building named Hostel Daze.
Since Sunday is a day off from classes, it is believed that most of the students were in their rooms. Information was shared that some students made phone calls from under the debris.
Rescue Operations and Loss of Life
According to information provided by local police, at least one person died in the incident, while six people were rescued alive from the rubble.
It was stated that two of the rescued individuals are in critical condition and are continuing to receive treatment at the hospital.
Basement Work and Precautions
It was learned that construction work was being carried out in the basement of the building. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that, following inspections at the scene, an adjacent building was also evacuated as a precautionary measure.
