Dawit Seare Becomes 5km World Champion in Copenhagen

Winning the men's 5km race at the World Athletics Road Running Championships held in Copenhagen, Eritrean athlete Dawit Seare broke the national record by passing Jakob Ingebrigtsen with a tremendous surge in the final straight.

Start of the Race and France's Pace

The men's 5km event at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen witnessed a fast start. French athlete Flavien Szot leaped to the front right at the beginning of the race, setting a high tempo.

While French athlete Szot crossed the first kilometer in the lead, his teammate Jimmy Gressier and other favorites also took their places in the front group. Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen preferred to stay in the middle of the pack during the early stages.

Great Rivalry Between Seare and Ingebrigtsen

As the race entered its final kilometer, the lead continued to change hands. Following an attack by Ethiopian Mezgebu Sime, Dawit Seare took the lead, while Jakob Ingebrigtsen, celebrating his 26th birthday, immediately placed himself in second.

With about 30 seconds left to the finish line, Ingebrigtsen took the lead to gain an advantage. However, Dawit Seare responded instantly to this attack, leaving his Norwegian rival behind in the final meters and reaching the world championship with a national record time of 12:56.

Completion of the Podium and Other Results

Displaying a great performance in the dying moments of the race, Jakob Ingebrigtsen claimed the silver medal by breaking the Norwegian record with a time of 12:59.

Young Eritrean athlete Saymon Amanuel improved his personal best to run 13:00 and brought the bronze medal to his country. Meanwhile, Australian Ky Robinson missed out on a medal just barely by breaking the Oceania record.
